Information and communication technology is a huge field enclosing virtually all technologies that can store, receive or transmit signals electronically. Many fields have been impacted by information technology and these include; education , health , entertainment , and communication. As the world develops, more technology will surface and this technology will have both positive and negative impacts.
ADVANTAGES:
- Life skills via technology
Using technology in classroom could prepare students for their deep rooted future with amplified technologies hitting into the market. The important skills like as focusing on creating presentation, writing emails etc. which could be taught in the classroom.
- Effective means of learning
Technology in the classroom is designed for making the learning easy and bit faster. Its effectiveness allows the students to understand the concepts in the shorter span of time and allows them to learn much more than expected, when technology would not have been used.
- Creativity is enhanced
There are few students who do require the creativity for stimulating their potential learning. The best thing about the technology in classroom is that it is able to help those students who are interested in learning things in creative and innovative way.
DISADVANTAGES:
- Technology could be distraction
Technology could be a distraction, especially when students are using it for personal reasons while class is going on. The only means how it could be managed is by settling down with the specific set of rules and regulations.
- Online security and Safety
One of the great concerns is with regards to safety and security of students as they should not be able to access unsuitable materials. It is due to the security that most of the search engines are providing filters for removing unwanted content on the site.
- Forgetting the basic ways of studying
The students are no longer going to rely on books. They have a tendency to enhance their knowledge with the use of the technology. Even the simple homeworks assigned to them are answered with the help of the technology and don’t use their mind at all.
WHAT I’VE LEARNED:
ICT has taught me that social media can be a powerful tool – if you know how to use it. Social media sites have changed the way we interact with each other. I realized that it is impossible to explore how each new advanced technology has impacted our lives and how it will impact the future. Technology impacts the environment, people and the society as a whole. The way we use technology determines if its impacts are positive to the society or negative.
